Is There a Relationship Between Hypertension and Diabetes?
Not long ago, I was talking with a friend who mentioned she received a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. This is also known as adult onset. She did not experience any symptoms, so this was rather surprising to her.
If not for the blood test her doctor ordered as part of her regular physical examination, it is difficult to say when she would have realized she even had diabetes.
Her physician took this very seriously as did I. My friend also learned she had hypertension a couple of years ago.
The cause for concern is simple – over two thirds of patients with diabetes also have high hypertension.
Diabetes is an issue because its a disease where the body can’t process sugar properly. There are two types of diabetes, the first being type 1 diabetes. This is where the body doesn’t make it’s own diabetes and injections are needed to correct this.
The other type of diabetes that affects up to 95% of the 5 million diagnosed diabetes sufferers is type two. With type two diabetes, the suffer is able to produce some insulin from his or her pancreas but blood sugar is still not properly processed.
This is an issue because the body’s tissues are targeted by these remaining sugars and eventually erode. The major areas affected are: nerves, eyes, heart and kidney. The number 1 cause of kidney failure is actually due to diabetes. Coming in 6th is heart failure.
Both diabetes and hypertension share another commonality – many people with either disease suffer no symptoms and their bodies are sometimes under attack for years before real damage can be seen.
Adding another serious health problem – like high blood pressure and the odds of suffering a heart attack or stroke increase significantly.
Drugs are often necessary to control diabetes. But, fortunately, some of the effects can be stalled by eating properly and getting physical exercise. Limiting alcohol consumption can also help.
This advise also applies to decreasing the symptoms of hypertension.
My High Blood Pressure Program is extremely effective for permanently lowering blood pressure and best of all it’s completely natural.
