Although High Blood Pressure, also known as hypertension, is a health issue that requires medical treatment, there are some things people can do to help the medication along. A diet of heart healthy foods, healthy physical activity, and quality rest are the best ways to help the entire body remain healthy. Here are some tips on how to include some ideas into your schedule.

Healthy Foods – An individual should expect that whatever is put into the body is going to determine the results of their general health. Eating a diet that is high in fatty foods should result in a greater degree of fat found in the blood stream. The body does not consume fat, it stores it and by limiting the fatty foods in the diet should reduce the fat found in the blood volume.

When choosing healthy foods, fruit and vegetables are an excellent choice because they are high in minerals and vitamins that are required by the body. Some other beneficial ingredients are also found in them that assist in maintaining healthy flesh and bones. Eating five cups of fresh fruit every day is a good health idea, and canned fruits can be substituted when fresh product is out of season.

Some other foods that are recommended for good health are fish, which contains Omega oils, and grains that are rich in fiber which is low in fat and helps cleanse the body. It is recommended that people eat an assortment of beans which are not only high in fiber but are inexpensive, as well as being low in fat.

Physical Activities – The body is made up of mostly water, and because of this it requires something to help keep fluid levels flushed through the system. Walking, jogging, swimming, aerobics and several other activities help in flushing the system by causing perspiration, and a higher rate of breathing. When these things are going on, the body is cycling through the intake flushing cycle.

The body should be thought of as a system of systems that are independent of each other, yet rely on each of them to maintain total health. If all these systems are properly maintained by being physically active, the entire body stays in tune and a healthy life is the result.

One of the best ways to keep a person on an activity campaign is to find online support, where other people help keep the determination to stay active and stay healthy. The more a person continues to repeat their activity attempts, the better the chances of staying with the idea.

Weight Management – When considering an effort at total body health, a diet that is fully balanced combined with the proper physical activities, maintaining weight is often not as difficult as with a meal diet alone. Put these things together, and the body will be ready to sleep. A good nights rest is equally important to overall health, as well as helping to address the matter of High Blood Pressure.

As another medication in the arsenal of treatment against high blood pressure, Alistrol reviews demonstrate an encouraging option. Alistrol combines with other measures to control and reduce dangerously high blood pressure.

Heart disease can happen to a lot of people. In fact, in the United States alone, someone dies from a heart disease of one kind or another every thirty seconds or so. Given those not-so-pretty statistics, its a really good idea to be well-informed about it. In a lot of causes, heart disease is hereditary.

With that in mind, dont forget to watch out for any signs of heart disease and to keep informed about what causes heart disease. Being informed can literally save your life, so make sure that you know what to avoid and how to detect heart disease.

The numbers certainly arent pretty, but this doesnt mean that you have the excuse to just hide under the covers and wait until your turn to croak comes along. Often, being able to detect the signs of heart disease early will do a great deal to help you be able to manage it “doing so could even save your life. On the other hand, avoiding what causes heart disease in the first place is a really great way to keep from getting one in the first place.

Other signs of heart disease include numbness, discomfort or a squeezing or choking feeling. There are a lot of different heart diseases and there are a lot of different symptoms for heart disease, but these are the most common. To prevent or help manage any health problems, dont forget to try and get a full physical checkup at least once a year.

You know what causes heart disease too? Bad dietary habits and a sedentary lifestyle! Not getting any cardiovascular exercise and eating too much of the wrong stuff can really put a strain on your heart; particularly if you also start to put on weight because of it.

How? Well if you dont get much exercise and eat a lot of food thats loaded with sugar, fat, and preservatives, youre likely to get pretty overweight. All that excess weight is likely to put a strain on your heart, which means that your heart will have to work much harder than it would under normal, healthy circumstances.

What causes heart disease can also be what causes a lot of other serious conditions: obesity. The larger or heavier a person is, the harder their heart would have to work to supply blood to their whole body. What causes heart disease can often be avoided simply by keeping healthy and giving up bad habits like smoking and overeating. Good cardiovascular exercise is also a great way to keep your heart healthy.

If you should ever have these symptoms, its highly advisable that you see a doctor, to make sure that you have all of your bases covered.

by Peter Bertonich

I’ve talked before about many of the health benefits of fish oil supplements. Theres a range of health benifits of fish oil, amongst them to your heart. Lets have a look at Omega 3 and cholesterol today.

The results of a new study into the heart benefits of fish oil have been published in the Jan/Feb issue of Sports Health, A Multidisciplinary Approach.

This particular study studied the heart benefits of fish oil supplements and it looked at the benefits to the heart of fish oil supplements high in DHA and EPA, the two major Omega 3 fats.

There were 36 pro football players who took part and they took either omega 3 fish oil supplements or else a placebo. The fish oil capsules they took contained 2560 mg of omega-3 fatty acids (650 mg EPA and 450 mg DHA in each capsule.)

The results of the study backed up many other studies that demonstrate the benefits of essential fatty acid supplements in the form of omega 3 or fish oil supplements.

The football players had an improvement in their HDL levels (their good cholesterol) and a reduction in their LDL levels (their bad cholesterol).

And as well they also found a reduction in overall triglycerides levels.

This is not the only fish oil supplements study to find a link between Omega3 and heart health. There are now numerous studies confirming a range of heart related health benefits of taking fish oil or Omega 3 supplements.

In fact the American Heart Association now recommends the intake of EPA and DHA (the two major beneficial Omega 3 fats) daily, at a dose of 1 gram a day, more for those with elevated triglycerides.

So now that you know how important taking sufficient Omega 3 fats in your diet is, how do you increase your intake? By using the very best Omega 3 fish oil supplements.

But not all fish oil supplements are the same. Some have different levels of DHA in them and there are also issues with contamination with some heavy metals, PCBs and mercury. Not high levels, but enough to take notice of. The best fish oil supplements have no detectable levels of contaminants, and also a high level of DHA, so are better value, and clean.

So if you’re at risk of heart problems, and aren’t we all, make sure you make fish oil supplements a part of your daily diet.

I’ll let you know where to source the best fish oil capsules on my website.

Have you ever heard of the French Paradox? It was first used by Dr. Serge Renaud to describe how lucky the French people were to eat such delicious, fatty foods without having a high incidence of heart attacks and heart related problems.

60 Minutes featured a whole show to Resveratrol. The show featured information as to how people have been benefiting from Resveratrol. The French Paradox it seems was due to a little know, natural antibiotic found in the grapes that make red wine.

After that, sales of red wine shot through the roof as everyone who was interested in staving off heart disease began drinking red wine. However was it just the wine or was there something IN the wine that allowed the French to enjoy their culinary delights without regard for heart attacks?

Resveratrol, which is found in the skin of red grapes is mainly responsible for the benefits of drinking red wine. Since 60 Minutes did their report back in 1991, Resveratrol has been attributed to curing or preventing a host of ailments including heart disease and even cancer.

Resveratrol, which is found in the skin of red grapes is mainly responsible for the benefits of drinking red wine. Since 60 Minutes did their report back in 1991, Resveratrol has been attributed to curing or preventing a host of ailments including heart disease and even cancer.

As Resveratrol is not a drug. It is completely natural. It is a nutritional supplement. We hear so many people asking is Resveratrol for real. Can something from the skin of red grapes be so effective in treating and preventing major ailments like heart disease? The simple answer seems to be yes.

Now of course Resveratrol can’t help if cardiovascular disease is a result of other non-dietary factors, or at least it has not been shown to help as of yet. “The French paradox is only a paradox if one assumes that dietary fat is the major cause of obesity and cardiovascular disease,” said Paul Rozin, professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania.

Heart disease indeed can be brought on by a number of factors that are not related to the diet. Research as to the benefits of Reveratrol in this regard is ongoing.

Dr. Christoph Westphal, who was featured in the 60 Minutes segment, thinks that if the data on Resveratrol continues to underscore the many benefits of Resveratrol then he believes that we all may soon be taking Resveratrol.

Westphal truly believes that Resveratrol has the ability to change how we view health care.

Resveratrol is becoming hugely popular and there are many derivations of it. Our research has determined that res-V may be the most effective form of Resveratrol. Please check out my review of the Res-V supplement on the ConsumerSource website.

H1N1 or swine influenza spreads via sneezing and coughing, which then infects others. The majority of people have had the normal flu in their lifetime, and the symptoms of that and H1N1 are similar such as a fever over 100 degrees farenheit, chills, fatigue, stuffy nose, aching body, sore throat. There are some differences with H1N1 though.

In children, some indications you should take them immediately to the hospital are the following: lethargy, bluish or grayish skin tone, difficulty breathing, severe vomiting, extreme irritability, not drinking enough fluids, having repeat flu symptoms that are worse the second time around.

For adults, symptoms that indicate emergency medical help would include labored difficult breathing, severe vomiting, dizziness, pain in chest or stomach or pressure in those areas, confused thinking, and flu symptoms that diminish and then return with greater coughing and fever.

H1N1 flu: this respiratory disease does not normally result in swine to human transmission. This year a new form of the virus has developed and is now being passed person to person. The U.S. is not deteching the virus in any herd of pigs presently, but in Alberta, Canada, an infected herd was discovered and is now under quarantine. Some people are concerned about eating pork, but the virus is not spread through food. Egypt has decided to slaughter all their pigs, and other countries may have followed suit, though this has not become news yet. Pandemic flu is one in which there is very little immunity in the body, and the disease spreads quickly amongst people. There is no pandemic flu at the time of this writing. The H1N1 virus is being carefully monitored in order to determine how the virus is spreading. Seasonal or common flu is a respiratory illness that spreads person to person, and there is a vaccine for it. Most people normally have an immunity to some degree built up against the common flu. Precautions: have kleenex, hand sanitizer with an alcohol base, and wash with soap and water frequently. Employees should leave the work premises if they are showing symptoms of the flu.

So whats the big deal about swine flu compared to the other influenza that goes around? As in any flu, other medical conditions you might have can in combination become more dangerous to your system. For example, heart disease patients are more susceptible to having medical concerns heightened by the flu.

Having a flu shot will not protect your from swine influenza, otherwise there would be lineups of people waiting for their vaccination.

There is an anti-viral drug for H1N1 that can be provided, but usually the symptoms need to be recent, within two days prior to having the drug. Health care departments are administering this anti-viral drug to the most severely ill and those who have to be in close proximity with them who are more susceptible to infection.

Who is most at risk for acquiring H1N1? People with respiratory conditions, especially those under age five, pregnant women and older people over age 65.

Ive been with many people who came back from Mexico this past April. We all wash our hands at work and a couple staff worked from home for one week as their spouse or their family member was feeling ill. I have not become ill, nor have any of them tested positive though they have been tested a few times now just for safety sake.

Today, a lot of significance is given to how much a person weighs. We go on a diet to improve our appearance according to what people think we should look like. Improved health and energy are other reasons we want to lose weight.

by Ana Dupas

Today, a lot of significance is given to how much a person weighs. We go on a diet to improve our appearance according to what people think we should look like. Improved health and energy are other reasons we want to lose weight.

Should your heart be a point of concern, you should watch your weight. However, weight is not always about pounds. The proportion of your hips to waist is more important than what you weigh.

According to the American Heart Association, men who have a waistline above 40 inches and women who have a waist above 35 inches are at an increased risk for heart disease. In fact, people who have a higher waist to hip ratio are more likely to have heart problems than people who are overweight and obese with lower ratios.

Visceral fat, a specific type of fat that is stored in your body, is what causes the higher likelihood of developing heart problems. This fat is located below your muscle and collects around your internal organs. Visceral fat is more stressful to your heart than any other accumulation of fat.

Some of the problems it causes are high cholesterol, elevated blood sugar, and hypertension. When you combine these problems, the probability of heart problems increases.

The good news is that even if you only lose a small amount of weight around your waist, you may have huge decreases in your risk of heart disease. And one of the best ways to target the midsection is through practicing exercises like yoga.

You don’t have to spend hours and hours at the gym every day, either. It’s possible to improve your health and achieve the results you want in just 20-40 minutes of exercise each day.

You can also handle your weight problem by changing your diet to include lots of fruits, vegetables, lean meat and whole grains. Eliminate food products that contain high levels of fats, particularly saturated or trans, as well as sugar.

Eating healthier will currently help you to lose some of the fat, however, it also regulates blood sugar, lowers cholesterol, and blood pressure. In combination, this takes care of your heart concerns. This is the way to a healthy heart.

Losing the extra weight you are carrying around your middle can help you to fit into that new outfit, but more importantly it helps you to stay healthy and have a long life.

Decreasing the Risk Factors

by Dr. Jason Fowler

Decreasing the Risk Factors

Diabetes is a dangerous health problem. In adults, diabetes is often a result of long-term nutritional neglect and abuse.

Most of us don’t eat breakfast. Our fuel supply is very low, and we wind up running on fumes. We grab a high-calorie muffin or a candy bar later in the morning when we’re really, hungry. What we don’t know is that this snack causes insulin to dump out of the pancreas into the bloodstream, as the body attempts to process the surge in blood glucose from the snack we just ate.

This pattern is repeated throughout the day. A graph of the average person’s blood sugar levels would show sharp spikes – both highs and lows – in every 24-hour period. Eventually, the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas get tired and wear out. The result is consistently high levels of blood glucose which is called diabetes.

Diabetes may cause severe eye problems, severe kidney problems, and severe circulatory problems. It is associated with obesity, heart disease, and increased mortality. Not good.

An obvious preventive strategy would be to ensure that blood glucose levels are steady throughout the day. Actually, this is very easy to do. All that’s required is to develop healthy eating habits and do regular exercise.

Eat breakfast – a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese mixed with a 6-ounce cup of yogurt is all you need in the morning.

Do food combining at every meal – always eat a combination of protein and carbohydrate as much as possible.

No between-meal snacks is a very important rule to follow.

Regular exercise that is challenging and fun – build-up gradually and be consistent

We’re in the middle of several deadly epidemics in the United States. Obesity, diabetes, and heart disease are affecting more and more people every year. Recent statistics show that two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese. Thirty percent of American children are obese. Approximately 21 million Americans have diabetes. One child out of every 500 has type I diabetes. In America, 72 million adults have high blood pressure. These are shocking statistics, considering that U.S. health care expenditures totaled $2 trillion in 2006. That’s 2 TRILLION dollars.

As Americans, we’re getting less healthy by the day. The good news is there are many things we can do about these trends. There is real action that every American, young and old, can take to support and protect their health and well-being. These action steps all focus on lifestyle – the choices we make each and every day.

The first step is an honest self-assessment. When was the last time I exercised? Does my clothes size increase every couple of years? How many times during the week do I eat fast food? When was the last time I ate an apple instead of half a box of cookies?

Regardless of the answers, it is possible to become healthy and fit again, whatever your current circumstances. You CAN lose 10 or 20 or 30 or however many pounds. You CAN climb stairs without getting out of breath. You CAN regain the youthful glow of vitality. You CAN be vigorous and proud of your body, rather than worrying about what’s going to be the next thing to break down.

Healthy eating and regular exercise are essential parts of the solution to combating obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.1,2 These practices have the magical effect of resetting your metabolic clock – your body shifts from a pattern of storing fat to a pattern of burning fat.3 Over time, with a nutritious food plan and consistent exercise, you even burn fat while you’re resting! Your body is very smart. You just have to treat it right.

Your chiropractor is a wonderful asset – both as a health care practitioner and as a guide – on your journey toward fitness and wellness. Your chiropractor has extensive resources available on practical nutrition and how to design a supportive food plan. He or she has deep knowledge regarding the types of exercises and activities that will be right for you. You and your chiropractor can design an exercise program that will be both fun and rewarding. Working together, you’ll be maximizing your health and vitality. You will begin to fulfill a way of living that will support you in being healthy and well for years to come.

Even if you are unlucky enough to have heart disease in your family, it does not mean that you have to accept it as a given that heart disease is inevitable. Yes it’s true- due to the gene pool some people are more prone to heart disease than others. However that is just a small part of the tale – if you lead your life correctly, take notice of the tell tale signs, and get regular health checks – then you can make sure the cards are dealt in your favour. You don’t have to one of the 233,000 people who die of heart disease in the UK each year – you just need to know where the risks lie.

Well for a start your age and sex will have a major degree of influence on how prone to heart disease you are. There is a gradual increase in the risk of heart problems as you get older. While the majority of younger people who die of heart disease are male, the increase in risk for women is substantially more after menopause – at which point their risk increase threefold. As you get older the other risk factors become more important as that is when your body gets more vulnerable. So pay attention!

The first and probably biggest risk factor related to heart disease is related to smoking cigarettes. If you smoke at all you are greatly increasing the chances of developing heart problems later in life. For someone who smokes twenty ciggies per day you are twice as likely to develope heart disease than someone who doesn’t smoke. Smoke forty per day and the chances are four times more likely. See a pattern? It doesn’t take a genius to work out that by cutting out the fags you are cutting out a major factor of developing heart problems.

How many of you actually know the situation with your blood pressure at the moment? How many of you have had it checked recently. I would think the answer is not many. Yet having a regular BP check is vitally important in preventing heart disease – especially as we get older. Having high blood pressure is an indicative risk factor of possible heart problems. By having a regular check with your doctor you could get a vital heads up on any possible problems. High blood pressure can be treated if picked up by your GP. You might not have that luxury if the first you know about it you’re lying on the floor holding your chest.

Another indicator that you do not want to be high is your cholesterol level. Cholesterol is a type of fat that is normally present in the bloodstream, so if you have too much of it is probably down to your diet. If you have a lot of cholesterol in your blood stream you could increase your risk of heart problems by as much as three times. The moral of the story – lay off the dairy products!

As with most health issues the risks can be reduced by a little bit of exercise in the daily routine. It gets you fitter, it gets your heart fitter, and it keeps the weight off. The truth is if you are overweight and/or unfit then the chances of you having higher BP and cholesterol levels increase. It basically means you straight away increase the risk of heart disease. As they say prevention is usually better than cure. A little exercise in your life can go a long way to keep heart disease away.

The final major risk factor we want to talk about in this article is stress. Although not an obvious choice, many people believe that stress is an important contributor to heart disease – though this theory is more controversial than other risk factors. The reason stress is a problem is that it can raise blood pressure – again showing how one risk factor can influence another. And have you ever seen a movie where a sudden stress or shock triggers off a heart attack? Well this can happen to someone who already has heart disease, showing that stress is definitely a health risk in that sense.

“Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are,” said the French philosopher. Two hundred years later, doctors agree. If you eat unhealthy, you end up unhealthy. Here we focus on just one of many dietary villains: cholesterol, and his sidekick, triglycerides. If you want to steer clear of heart and artery disease, then you must understand the unhealthy nexus between the cholesterol- (and triglyceride-) laden food you consume and cardio-vascular disease. This understanding is crucial to making an informed decision about your choice of food, because that’s going to affect your health and your life.

Medical research shows that high cholesterol food is the main cause of morbid cardio-vascular conditions resulting in strokes and heart attacks. The patient’s health is aggravated further if the morbid cardio-vascular condition is accompanied by hypertension, smoking, obesity, and hereditary factors.

When we speak of ‘cholesterol’ we are talking about three categories of cholesterol: good cholesterol (HDL), bad cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides. This means that not all cholesterol is bad. Foods rich in Omega-3 fats like fish are helpful in reducing LDL levels and are advised for patients suffering from cholesterol-caused diseases.

We grew up to a simple fact: Eggs are good for us! Then came the pronouncement: Eggs contain a lot of cholesterol! Immediately eggs were taken off the diet lists of almost every household. Now eggs are back without the yolk because research has shown that it is the yolk which contains the cholesterol and not the white. So chefs everywhere are dreaming up yolk-less egg delicacies! The point is that we often bad name a food without really understanding what about it is really harmful.

These swings in favor of or against cholesterol-containing foods confuse the man on the street. Eggs are not the main culprit in raising the level of bad cholesterol. The thing to avoid is not eggs by themselves, but to say no to the large helpings of bacon, cheese and sausages on the side. Paying attention to the way in which your food is cooked will pay off more than simply concentrating on including this and excluding that food from your diet.

The way the food is cooked is just as much to blame for high cholesterol levels in the bloodstream. Even foods innocent of any trace of cholesterol, can be transformed into real dangerous dishes. If the food is fried in oil or margarine then the goodness of the food is overpowered by the saturated fats present in the cooking medium. Red meats, poultry products, and dairy products contain high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. So it’s best to stay away from fried stuff and animal products.

Even if you only select those items that are low in bad cholesterol, you may still end up with choked arteries if you are not watchful about the saturated fats that you take in. This is because a high intake of saturated fats triggers a sharp increase of LDL levels as well as triglycerides.

The key to good health it appears is to moderate the dietary intake of high cholesterol foods and saturated fats. So choose poached eggs over that egg omelet, and grilled chicken over fried chicken, and a fresh salad over French fries! That’s the way to a healthy heart and a healthy life!

We hear them preached everywhere, every time.. Eat good cholesterol foods and reduce your figures. When it comes to cholesterol, we all know that there are “good” ones and “bad” ones, with HDL being the good type and LDL the bad type. The problem is how to stick with the good one and get rid of the bad one? It’s a rather complicated subject, so let’s start..

Cholesterol itself is actually very important to human life. It’s when they are present in high levels in your bloodstream that it becomes a problem. Diseases such as stroke, heart disease and other cardiovascular related diseases are associated with high cholesterol. Specifically, high LDL and low HDL should be avoided. LDL may become hardened and forms plaque in your arteries, therefore slowing blood flow. HDL on the other hand, has the ability to take back excessive LDL back into the liver.

We don’t exactly eat HDL or LDL, it forms in the body. Some of the foods that we eat do contain cholesterol, such as eggs, dairy and animal fat. Plant oils and fats contain a cholesterol-like substance called phytosterols. They help lower blood cholesterol levels. Saturated and trans-fats contribute to high LDL, as do simple carbohydrates, such as sugar and white flour.

In general, good cholesterol foods are foods coming from plants, because of the phytosterol they contain. Most animal meats are not good when it comes to cholesterol, except fish (especially deep sea fish) because they contain Omega-3 fats, which are found in canola oil as well.

A good diet for keeping LDL levels low would include lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grain foods, such as oatmeal and fish. Eating a bowl of oatmeal every day has been shown to reduce LDL levels.

It’s a healthy decision to use olive or canola oil when you cook or bake, rather than lard or saturated fat. It has been determined that eating certain nuts decrease risk of heart disease. So, eat some of them every day when you can: hazelnuts, walnut, almonds, pecans, pistachios and peanut. An ounce a day is recommended, provided you’re not allergic to them, of course.

What you can also try is to replace your daily dose of coffee and soda with green tea instead. Green tea has been shown to have many health related benefit, lowering LDL level is one of them. If you need sweetener to go with it, stay away from processed sugar. Use honey or raw cane sugar.

Try taking lots of different antioxidants in your daily diet. When cholesterol in your body becomes oxidized, they form hard plaques in the arteries, which are very dangerous. Antioxidants such as green tea, vegetables and fruits help preventing this process from happening.

If you can’t stop eating meat or poultry, choose lean cuts. If you can’t stop milk or other dairy products, choose reduced fat products made with skim or low-fat milk.

Making the switch from bad to good cholesterol foods may be easier than you think. You just need to make the right choices.
