Skin cancer is caused by being over exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation. If a person is more genetically predisposed to be more sensitive to UV rays then there is more chance that skin cancer will develop. Typical signs that a person is predisposed to skin cancer is a family history of the disease or a pale complexion that burns easily in the sun. As sunlight is the number one way in which people get exposed to UV rays, much advice is given about how to take precautions so that sunlight does not lead to skin cancer. This article will discuss some of these ideas. In particular it will focus on how sunscreen can help protect your skin and minimize the chances of developing skin cancer.

Before covering how sunscreen works, it should be reiterated that sunscreen is not the only way to protect your skin from the sun. It should be used in conjunction with some of the ideas covered below.

Avoiding over exposure to UV rays is done by avoiding exposure to the Sun. The worst time to be in the sun is around midday when it is high in the sky. A few hours either side of this time are also bad. Try to avoid being in the Sun around this time. If you are in the Sun around this time, or any time for that matter, take precautions.

Wear protective clothing. Darker colored garments are better than lighter ones. Cover your arms with a long sleeve shirt. Cover your legs with long pants or socks.

Wear a hat with a wide brim. You could also use a sun umbrella if you don’t like hats but a hat is the best method of protecting the scalp and face.

Wear a good pair of sunglasses, as skin cancer can also affect the eyes.

After taking all these precautions you should then apply sunscreen. Cover parts of your body that are not protected by clothing and come into direct contact with the sunlight.

Sunscreens come in two types. The more common type is a chemical sunscreen that absorbs UV rays. The other type is a physical sunscreen that reflects or blocks the UV rays (these are sometimes called sunblocks).

A way to determine the effectiveness of a sunscreen is to look at it’s Sun Protection Factor (SPF). The popular recommendation in this respect is to always go for an SPF of 30+. SPF pertains to the ability to protect the skin from UVB radiation that is thought to be the worst form of radiation for sun burn and skin cancer. However, it does not protect against UVA radiation, which researchers feel can be just as dangerous as UVB. Products that are known as Broad Spectrum sunscreens protect against both UVB and UVA rays.

Sunscreens that act as a sunblock are best if you have to spend plenty of time out in the Sun. No doubt you have seen people wearing such creams on the nose or lips. It is almost like a paint that they have applied to the skin. This puts many people off using such creams but they are the best way to protect your skin from the Sun.

Sunblocks normally consist of titanium dioxide or zinc oxide. If you don’t like the prospect of having a large white band across your nose then an alternative is to get ultramicronized titanium or zinc sunscreens. They do the same job of reflecting the sunlight but do make you look like you have warpaint on.

Regardless of the type of sunscreen you go for, remember to always reapply it every 2 hours. This may vary depending on how active you are in the Sun. Get a cream that you like in terms of texture or fragrance so that the reapplication is not such a chore.

Anyone that is diagnosed with high cholesterol has to address two problems: first, it is important to lower your cholesterol levels to healthier ranges, and second, you must raise HDL cholesterol. Now you may very well wonder why that is, and the answer is simply that when you have high cholesterol, the HDL cholesterol can reduce the negative effects of LDL cholesterol so you avoid the high cholesterol complications.

If your HDL cholesterol is at a low level, you may have a greater chance of developing heart disease. Low HDL cholesterol levels will cause the LDL cholesterol to stay in the arteries where it can cause a blockage leading to a stroke. If you raise HDL cholesterol, this causes cholesterol to move from your arteries and go to your liver where it can be removed.

Understanding your food habits is the initial step your doctor will use to control your cholesterol levels. A nutrition expert will be able to give you advice on a diet plan that will assist in lowering your LDL cholesterol and at the same time raise HDL cholesterol. Such a diet plan will consist of low fat, lean protein and vegetables and fruits that provide a lot of nutrients.

Exercising is also significant when you are attempting to lower your chances of heart disease. You need to begin a routine of exercising every day and this will cause you to lose weight and allow your body to raise HDL cholesterol and get rid of the harmful cholesterol that is clogging up your arteries.

Once you switch over to low fat diet and regular exercise, teach this healthy living technique to the whole family. By this you will not only be maintaining your own health, but will also help in maintaining the good health of all your family members. A healthy diet is not always easy to follow, but once you get used to it, it’s a piece of cake (low fat of course!). By being a role model for your children, you will be helping them safeguard their health. This will play an important role in their future health also. Teaching your children to eat healthier foods makes plenty of sense.

Plenty of information is available to help you modify your lifestyle so as to address the major issues related to health. Pick out a few cookbooks and earn to cook using healthy foods. You will be able to find many excellent recipes that will give you delicious and healthy meals. You can raise HDL cholesterol and contemporaneously lower LDL cholesterol by making a conscious effort to eat properly.

It is possible to raise HDL cholesterol and lower LDL cholesterol through diet and exercise alone but keep in mind that depending on the extent of your cholesterol levels and related issues, medications may be needed. Doctors are normally resistant to prescribing medication because it is better for the body to sort it’s problems out naturally however you should discuss this with your doctor for the best results.

If you need to lower your cholesterol you can always take the medication route. Doctors are usually reluctant to go down this route unless there are extenuating circumstances, such as an abnormally high or critical cholesterol reading. There is no doubt that medication works to lower cholesterol in the body but doctors prefer the individual to take more responsibility for their own well being.

If you want to naturally lower cholesterol levels this will require a bit more effort than taking pills each day, but it will be well worth, not only for your health but for your finances too. Effectively, you will have to watch what you eat and do exercises, making sure that you are eating the most wholesome food available and take the time to get enough exercise to maintain a healthy heart.

Forewarned is forearmed and knowing about cholesterol and how you can lower its levels in your bloodstream will help you to win the battle against it. You can find lots of information on foods that help in naturally lowering cholesterol levels by seeking out cookbooks that focus on this subject. Changing your diet is a natural and effective way to lower your cholesterol level. When you find good cookbooks with recipes for delicious, cholesterol lowering meals, you will be well on your way to your optimum, low cholesterol health!

You will be pleasantly surprised by the side effect of learning to prepare and enjoy heart healthy foods for naturally lowering cholesterol. You will no longer feel bloated or overstuffed from eating too much after a meal. Eating a healthy diet leaves you feeling healthy and satisfied after a meal. After you have changed your eating habits, you may occasionally be in a situation where you will eat some heavy, high cholesterol food. You will be surprised to find that you no longer like it!

Finding ways for naturally lowering cholesterol can be a family adventure. Even though you may find favorite foods on the “no-no” list, that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go completely without them. Substitution is the key. Use light cream instead of heavy cream, skinless ground chicken instead of beef. All these little changes can make a big difference when you are preparing the foods your family loves.

Dieting is a wonderful method to use for naturally lowering cholesterol, but exercising just as important too. You don’t have to work out like a professional runner in a cross country race. Just include some basic exercise in your life everyday such as something easy like taking a stroll. Any kind of exercise can benefit you if you did not exercise before, but remember to check with your doctor first. Gradually build up the amount or intensity over time.

The way you feel and your appearance will improve in a short time if you have a daily exercise program that you stick to. It may be a struggle to begin but with time you will question how you could have spent all this time without exercising. Exercise gives you such a wonderful feeling and as an added benefit, you?re naturally lowering cholesterol at the same time.

Naturally lowering cholesterol involves taking control of your health on your own by ensuring that your body is provided with the best nourishment. It also means toning up your body to its full potential. Healthy diet and exercise benefits are not limited to just bringing down your cholesterol levels. You will also get an overall sense of well-being and you will feel less tired.

by Adrian Fletcher

There is a good chance that an overweight person, who has a high level of cholesterol, will also have very high level of triglyceride. The type of food that you eat and the lifestyle that you maintain is the common thread between cholesterol and triglycerides.

The body stores fat from food that is eaten but not being used for energy immediately as triglycerides. Our food and lifestyle are directly related to our cholesterol and triglyceride levels. So we can control cholesterol and triglyceride by changing our food habits and lifestyle. This is often the first place to start if you have high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.

There is a lot you can learn about what types of foods are best to eat to have a normal level of cholesterol and triglycerides. Gathering the most knowledge you can find about the foods you consume is something you need to do before you try anything to lower your cholesterol levels through dieting.

You should plan a menu that includes meals that will keep your cholesterol levels within healthy ranges and this will promote better heart health. It is necessary that you know which kinds of food can keep you healthy and the foods that you eat that can cause problems or place you at risk of heart disease.

Many individuals don’t have adequate knowledge of foods that could elevate their cholesterol levels. But once you are aware of those which cause problems, you should substitute them with healthier ones. However, the new foods that you substitute them with should be the ones that you enjoy eating. Once you get into a routine of selecting healthier foods, you won’t even miss the problem ones. This is because you will feel better when you consume healthy foods. You can still eat many of your favorite dishes but just change some of the ingredients to healthier options.

Moderately exercising for a minimum of a half hour for five days out of each week will help to decrease your cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Exercising is good for your body because you will feel renewed and full of energy. When you feel like you are worn out and groggy the majority of the time, just including a half hour of fast paced walking each day this could help you feel well. You will be surprised with how much energy you will have after you have exercised.

There are a number of ways to lower your cholesterol and triglyceride levels, but learning to manage your diet and moderate exercise are the top ways. Physicians may also prescribe certain medications. Moderating your diet and watching your weight, however, is the most basic and important first step you can take. It can be done with a little planning and dedication to see it through, but it is well worth the effort.

by Adrian Fletcher

If you have worked hard over the past few months to lower your cholesterol levels, you want to ensure that you keep it within the cholesterol normal range that is considered acceptable. Simply put, in order to stay fit as you age, you will want to continue to monitor your cholesterol levels, eat a proper diet and exercise regularly.

Remember that dieting does not mean that you cannot have your favorite foods. The key to most dieting is moderation and this especially the case with a low cholesterol diet. To some existent, it can be said that lack of moderation could one of the causes of your high cholesterol. Keeping a cholesterol normal range is hard work but with moderation, you can still enjoy your favorite things.

To keep within cholesterol normal range your exercise routine should be kept up too. Getting used to daily exercise is not easy initially and once you start missing your exercise sessions, you may find yourself getting back to your old routine. So every time you feel like missing a session, recall how hard it was to make exercise part of your daily routine. Also, a bit like your diet, do exercises that you will enjoy (or dislike least if you really are averse to exercise). check with your doctor if you are starting exercise for the first time.

You may be tempted to stray from your current regimen once you get into the cholesterol normal range. Do not stray, in fact, you should maintain your current routine. Although your cholesterol has reached a normal range, it can easily reach an unhealthy range. Always remember you feel healthy now because you’ve made the proper adjustments.

Diet and exercise is not always effective in lowering cholesterol. In some cases, medical intervention is needed to get into a cholesterol normal range. There are some people that naturally produce a higher level of cholesterol also there are patients that need to lower their levels down immediately due to heart disease. In these cases, a doctor may be able to prescribe medication along with diet and exercise.

It is very important to keep up a cholesterol normal range. Medication can lower these levels but if you don’t change your diet you run the risks of canceling out the effects of the medication. Keeping your cholesterol in an acceptable range is the key to not only looking more youthful but feeling increased vitality for an extended period of time. Indeed, most doctors will make it a condition of taking the drugs that you maintain or start a healthier lifestyle.

Stick with eating healthy food and exercising daily. Once youve achieved cholesterol normal range levels, this should be a natural part of your daily routine. By doing this, you will surely feel and look much healthier, younger and at your most fit.

by Adrian Fletcher

Although it may seem like it, eating a low cholesterol diet does not mean cutting out all of your favorite meals, rather it means adapting them. This is what many people feel, and is in fact not the case. Some people believe that cholesterol in shrimp means that this delicacy is off limits to them and will deprive themselves of this and other favorite foods.

It is a common belief that shrimp contains cholesterol and is, therefore, a food that should be avoided. The cholesterol in shrimp does increase the LDL levels of cholesterol, but the level of good cholesterol is incrementally increased by a higher percentage. So you do not have to totally avoid shrimp, as long as you don’t overdo it, eating shrimp should not have an adverse effect on your cholesterol levels.

Whatever diet you follow to lower cholesterol should include foods that you enjoy. No one likes to have limitations placed on the foods they eat. However, if you do some homework as to the nutritional values of various foods, you should be able to create a diet that includes a variety of foods that are tasty, enjoyable and healthy while helping to control your cholesterol levels. By learning how to properly prepare foods, things like cholesterol in shrimp should not be a sticking point in your diet.

A crucial consideration when selecting a diet to lower your cholesterol is to include foods and ingredients that you like and enjoy eating. It is possible to create a healthy diet with all sorts of high fiber, fat free ingredients but it won’t do you much good if you can’t stomach it. This is why many prescribed diets fail. People always begin with the desire to change their diet to include only the best foods, but they are unable to make these foods appealing enough to continue eating them and the diet fades into the background after a few weeks or months. This is why a good cookbook becomes an essential ingredient for success in lowering cholesterol through diet.

It is entirely possible to have a healthy diet and at the same time like the food that you eat. Seek the help of a nutritionist to choose the type of foods that you can enjoy which will at the same time keep you in good health. Make sure that you put enough effort to work on the diet to ensure that you are gaining the best nutritional value out of what you eat.

When dieting, people tend to make poor decisions about what they eat which usually results in straying from their diet. However, constructing a well organized meal plan can avoid any resistance you might have to sticking with the diet until you reach healthier cholesterol levels.

Take care that you have enough quantity of food in your diet to keep your hunger in control and also help with your weight and cholesterol. Knowing facts like the cholesterol in shrimp will be helpful to you when it comes to making adjustments to your food selections and allow you to have a more varied and palate pleasing diet.

Anyone who carries excess weight and has a raised level of cholesterol, will in all probability have an increased level of triglycerides at the same time. The association between cholesterol and triglycerides typically results from the foods that are being eaten and the way you choose to live your life.

Much information is available regarding the various types of foods that you could consume for maintaining optimum levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. Your first task should be to gather as much as information as you possibly can about the food that you consume which pose challenges for maintaining acceptable cholesterol levels.

If you want your cholesterol and triglycerides levels to be reduced, thirty minutes of exercise for five days a week is a proven way that would help in this situation. Exercise can make you feel physically better, as you will feel energized and rejuvenated. If you feel consistently stressed out, you may find that by simply walking for thirty minutes, in addition to the regular time you spend in walking can be very helpful. Exercise is amazing restorative and relaxing.

Dieting and exercising are just two of the methods that you can use to reduce your cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Certainly, your physician can give you a prescription medicine that will decrease the level of your cholesterol. But, if you take control of your own health and well being by watching what you eat, this is the best thing you can do to be on the road to a healthier and happier life. It is actually very simple to make these changes and you will reap the benefits with improved health as you grow older.

The next time you go see your doctor don’t forget to request a cholesterol blood test. Everyone has cholesterol in their bodies and it serves many vital roles in the body. however if your cholesterol blood levels are high you will need to make some changes to your diet and lifestyle. Doctors will generally do the cholesterol and other tests more frequently after a certain age or family medical history to help you maintain your good health.

After analyzing your cholesterol blood test results, the doctor can advise you whether your cholesterol levels need to be lowered, or if your present lifestyle is enough to keep the cholesterol down. If it is needed to reduce your cholesterol then the doctor may prescribe some medicine but usually the first step to be done is diet control and a exercise plan.

You can have tremendous control over your cholesterol levels by controlling your diet. You can get your cholesterol levels right where they need to be by choosing to take the important step of monitoring your diet and the kinds of food you consume. You can consult a good dietitian to create a heart healthy, low cholesterol diet plan that you can easily follow and will enjoy.

Lowering your cholesterol level doesn’t mean that you are condemned to a lifetime of bland and boring foods. With many delicious food choices available, it can be an adventure in healthy eating. Look for new, cholesterol and heart-friendly foods that you will enjoy and you will have a happy, healthy dieting experience.

You can get asy access to plenty of information on ways of lowering cholesterol. You will discover that there are actually plenty of beneficial, healthy and delicious foods and many cook books geared to reducing cholesterol. They will not only recommend certain ingredients but also methods of preparing the food. It will not be difficult to become comfortable with the diverse foods and preparation techniques once you become accustomed to them being a part of your daily life.

Getting support from your family members for the new diet changes will make it easier for you to follow it. If you can avoid all unhealthy food from your house with the support of your family, you will not feel tempted to eat such food to ruin your diet. Another plus is that the rest of your family can reap the benefits of eating healthier foods as well.

Within a few months of implementing your new habits, your health care provider will want you to have a new cholesterol blood test. A regular cholesterol blood test is the best way to ensure that your new habits are having the desired effect of lowering your cholesterol levels; if you are not making sufficient progress, you might need to make some additional changes. In addition to the test results, the way you feel will also indicate that you are moving towards a healthier lifestyle.

There are many people out there who need to reduce their cholesterol levels. A blood test that is administered by a doctor, will determine whether your cholesterol is too high and if it is what can be done to correct this. Since cholesterol and diet go hand in hand, your doctor may recommend that you follow a low fat diet that is high in nutrients.

If you can control your cholesterol and diet, there’s a good chance you will not need any form of medication to reduce your cholesterol level. Usually when you are first diagnosed with high cholesterol levels, dieting is the first thing you will be asked to try along with a suitable exercise program. The doctor will give you information about the right food choices for your condition. You can simply follow the diet and exercise routine set out by your doctor or you can consult with a nutritionist if you need more guidance.

Nutritionists are able to show you which foods correlate with an increase in cholesterol levels. You will learn what foods to avoid and which ones are helpful for sticking to healthy levels of cholesterol and diet guidelines. You should learn everything you can about maintaining a healthy diet so that you can keep your heart healthy.

You will want to learn which of your preferred foods are truly nutritious. Dieting is often unsuccessful because dieters are unable to face eating the same foods over and over. You want to work at coming up with new cholesterol and diet-friendly recipes that will make it easier to stay with the things you should have. Adding a variety of herbs and spices to flavor otherwise bland foods can help you in this effort.

When you’re ready to tackle your cholesterol and diet and are armed with solid goals, it’s a good idea to find appropriate cholesterol friendly recipes. Try teasing your taste buds with something different. You may find that you enjoy the new taste. Variety in your diet can keep you on the right track for lowering your cholesterol.

Although the connection between your cholesterol and diet is well documented, including exercise in your daily routine goes a long way to reducing your cholesterol level too. Daily exercise is also good for stress levels and a host of other problems that can lead to increased cholesterol and general health problems. Different people enjoy different types of exercise so it’s a important to find an activity that you enjoy so to keep you motivated. Sticking with your new diet and exercise regimen are key when working on lowering your cholesterol.

When attempting to regulate your cholesterol and diet, select the foods that you actually like and types of exercise that you actually enjoy doing. You will be more likely to keep true to your lifestyle changes, rather than falling back into old behavior patterns and risking high cholesterol levels.
